What is hormone replacement therapy?

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can be used therapeutically for many conditions, the most common condition being menopause. HRT can also be used in men, as the male hormone testosterone decreases with age.

What is menopause?

Menopause and the years leading to menopause can cause symptoms that can greatly affect a woman’s quality of life. During this time, the female sex hormones (estrogen and progesterone) start to decline and the body behaves differently. Eventually women stop having periods altogether. 

Replacing these “low” hormones can help alleviate the symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness, libido issues, irritability, mood changes, and insomnia. It may also help with overall wellness, like cardiovascular and bone health.

How do I get a prescription for hormone replacement?

A prescription is required for the vast majority of hormone replacement products. Many prescriptions for hormone replacement are written by OB-GYN’s, as they are commonly seen for symptoms associated with low hormone levels. OB-GYN’s and other practitioners specialize in and feel comfortable prescribing compounded hormone replacement therapy.
